Sillimanite is a rare and intriguing gemstone known for its elegant luster, fibrous appearance, and fascinating optical properties. Named after the American chemist Benjamin Silliman, this gemstone belongs to the alumino-silicate mineral family and shares its chemical composition with andalusite and kyanite—making it part of a polymorphic trio. Here’s a detailed look at the unique qualities of sillimanite:
